David T. Hunt

Hunt has 25 years of experience in the areas of rail operations and strategic planning; national and regional freight policy and planning; and network modeling and operations research.  His client list includes most of the North American Class I railroads, intermodal operators, shippers, state DOTs, MPOs, and federal agencies.  As a Senior Specialist in the Surface Transportation and Energy (STE) Unit at Oliver Wyman, David is focused on delivery of decision support systems and operating strategies to improve efficiencies and reduce costs for our clients.  Prior to joining Oliver Wyman, David spent five years as a Senior Associate at Cambridge Systematics (CS).  He focused on freight policy and planning at CS, specifically rail freight planning.  David is currently a member of the Oliver Wyman team for implementing MultiRail for Kazakh Railways (KTZ) in Astana, Kazakhstan.  David is active in the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS), where he served as the Chair of the Railway Applications Section and a Council Member of the Transportation Science and Logistics Section, and is currently the Chair of the New Jersey Chapter.  He is also a member of the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB) Freight Transportation Data Committee and Network Modeling Committee, and a Friend of TRB’s Task Force on Innovations in Freight Transportation Modeling.  He has a B.S. in Civil engineering from West Virginia University and an M.S. in Engineering from Princeton University.
