MultiRail Software Products

Update: November 29th, 2011

MultiRail Planning Suite – MultiRail has long been known as the leading integrated software package for rail operational planning. The MultiRail platform was the first widely available system that allowed railroads to build their operating plans based on infrastructure and demand, and not simply by editing old train schedules. For the past two decades, MultiRail has given service design specialists an extensive set of tools for managing networks, importing and managing traffic data, designing blocks, flowing the traffic over the blocks, and building trains that support the traffic and blocks that are actually seen on the railroad.

Taking advantage of the integrated MultiRail platform, Oliver Wyman is pleased to unveil a full suite of rail planning modules that provide a wide array of functionality, each focusing on a specific aspect of rail planning and operations. The MultiRail Planning Suite currently contains 16 separate modules that are based on our experience and deep understanding of railroading, and anchored in the reality of a railway’s unique operating characteristics.

MultiRail Enterprise Edition - Oliver Wyman’s MultiRail Enterprise Edition contains a complete range of data management, graphical, analytical, and decision support tools for freight rail planning; all in one system. The combination of these developer tools with Oracle database management and multi-user architecture has created the most robust system we have ever offered to the market.  Powerful, traffic-based blocking plan and train plan analysis tools help to optimize operating plans, streamline customer service, and reduce costs.  An extensive array of reports and graphical interfaces allow all levels of railroad management to efficiently track, measure and analyze the impact of an operating plan design in a real world simulation.

MultiRail Passenger Edition -  Oliver Wyman’s MultiRail Passenger Edition contains a complete range of data management, graphical, analytical, and decision support tools for passenger rail planning.  Multiple users can access operating plan data to manage train specifications, timetables, crew schedules, consists, platform assignments, and track usage.  In addition to an extensive array of reports, interrelated interface tools, such as network graphics, track conflict animation, timetables, train consist graphics, and platform occupancy graphics are used to analyze the integrity of the operating plan.  Functional outputs, such as timetables and crew schedules, can be published in any format for real-time operations management.

Traffic Flow Analyzer- Oliver Wyman’s Traffic Flow Analyzer provides mapping and reporting features for analyzing traffic patterns, changes in traffic patterns and train movements for freight railroads.  The application can be used as a stand-alone module to directly create maps and reports from historical traffic records, such as completed traffic waybills or train archives, or it can be integrated with MultiRail Enterprise Edition to include the presentation or comparison of traffic patterns from proposed service plans.

MultiRail Locomotive Module - Due to the large expense of locomotive assets, and the tremendous impacts poorly-managed locomotive fleets can have on a rail network, Oliver Wyman has spent significant time during the past four years developing new capabilities to assist locomotive planning endeavors.  The focus of the MultiRail Locomotive Module is to provide users with a platform understand the impact of a particular train plan on overall locomotive requirements, ensure the feasibility of a particular plan given the locomotive fleet composition, identify the best choices for assigning active and deadhead locomotives to a particular train, and support the building and modification of locomotive cycle plans.   A copy of the Locomotive Module product information sheet will soon be posted on this page.

MultiRail Enterprise Web Browser-Based Interface - Currently in development is Oliver Wyman’s MultiRail’s Enterprise Browser-Based Interface, built upon the Enterprise Edition’s traffic-based operating plan analyses, which will present interactive reports and graphics that allow users to drill-down into sub-levels of statistical data.  Up-front screens will show high level crucial statistics and key performance indicators, such as overall handlings and car-miles.   Drill-downs will show interrelated statistics and sub-levels of analysis.  This browser-based tool will provide easy access to crucial statistics and key performance indicators for all levels of operating plan analyses.  More information on this new application will be available soon.
