About

Update: November 1st, 2011

Welcome to RailPlanning.com – dedicated to the global practice and application of freight and passenger rail planning. In our daily interactions with passenger and freight railroads, we have long heard that rail planning professionals want a forum for sharing ideas and information about their very specialized field. We believe that the launch of Oliver Wyman’s Railplanning.com blog, in early 2010, has answered that need.

In a field as varied and complex as rail planning, there is a huge amount of knowledge to be located, shared and used.  We recognize that there are many blogs and sites on the Web that are devoted to various aspects of railroading, but I believe that this is the only site you will find devoted to rail service design and operational planning.

This blog has now been active for over one year and we are extremely pleased with the effectiveness of the site as a tool for communication among our rail experts, clients and the market. While the use of social media in business could be getting over-hyped, our expectations on writing, readership and feedback from Railplanning.com have been met.  We remain dedicated to keeping this blog lively and fresh, and we strongly encourage commentary on the postings.

Most of the writing for the site has been done by members of the Oliver Wyman Rail Team, but we welcome postings by members of the rail planning community. If you wish to be a guest blogger, or simply have a question, please contact me via e-mail at Kevin.Foy@oliverwyman.com or call me at +1 609-520-2182.

Welcome once again and enjoy,

Kevin Foy
